Record deforestation shows government must tear up agriculture MOU

A Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) report showing record levels of deforestation is yet another reason why the Government must tear up the agriculture emissions memorandum of understanding (MOU), and not subsidise the agriculture industry by over a billion dollars, says Greenpeace in a statement.
MAF's latest figures show that 13,000 hectares of forest were cut down and not replaced in 2007 – the largest amount since records began 50 years ago - and according to National's climate spokesman Nick Smith, this is only going to increase.
