Coal mining takes on touch of the golden days

Sluice mining is to be reintroduced to the West Coast for the first time since the technique was used in the gold rush era - but this time the target is coal.
Hydro mining is scheduled to start in October at the Pike River mine, “boosting production to one million tonnes a year,” according to Pike River Coal Ltd.
