Parker pushes back against pumped-hydro critics

Environment and former climate and energy minister David Parker says he is backing investigations into a pumped-hydro scheme because it has the potential to slash the country’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Rejecting claims by some large generators that if it goes ahead, the Lake Onslow pumped-hydro scheme could push up power prices, Parker told Carbon News it would mean the country could, finally, close the Huntly power station which runs on coal and gas, and use renewably-generated electricity to power transport and industry.
