By FALKO BUSCHKE.- The town of Bethlehem in the Free State Province, South Africa, gets its name from the Hebrew words “Beit lechem” - house of bread. It is a fitting name for a town nestled within a patchwork of privately owned commercial farmland. Much can be learnt here about the challenges farmers face when conserving nature.
Although renowned for producing wheat, Bethlehem is also an important habitat for hundreds of bird species, some of which are threatened by extinction.
