Shock shipping news puts New Zealand on the spot

A United Nations study that claims the true scale of CO2 emissions from shipping is three times higher than previously thought, is bad news for New Zealand.
The study is still only semi-official, but leaks from the study estimate that annual emissions from the world’s merchant fleet are in fact 1.12 billion tones of C02 or about 5 per cent of all global emissions in the main greenhouse gas category.
