Unfair to blame biodiesel, say critics

Claims that Solid Energy’s diversification into biodiesel led to its dismal financial state are being dismissed by both the industry and the Green Party.
The Government, which has been asked to bail the State-owned coal producer out after it was revealed it is carrying $389 million of debt, has attributed much of the company’s problems to investment in clean-fuel companies Biodiesel New Zealand and Nature’s Flame.
