Lines companies can’t duck thermal ban - Parker

Lines companies will not be able to buck the Government’s ban on new thermal power generation despite the Electricity Industry Reform Amendment Bill (EIRA) seeming to give them that option, Climate Change Minister David Parker has told Carbon News.
In submissions to the Parliamentary select committee on the Climate Change (Emissions Trading and Renewable Preference) Bill, state-owned generator Mighty River Power said that EIRA “will increase the amount of thermal generation electricity lines businesses can invest [in] without sanction – not even having to comply with the corporate separation requirements and arms-length rules – from an aggregate of 189mw to 280mw.”
