Foresters seek timber imports safeguard

Forest owners want New Zealand to follow the lead of the United States and require government confirmation that imported timber has been legally logged.
New Zealand’s plantation forestry has a good sustainability story to tell on the international market, they say, but it is being undermined by the importation of illegally logged timber, mostly from Southeast Asia.
