ETS 'alienates' Maori forest land, says MP

The emissions trading scheme effectively alienates Maori land ownership by putting an encumbrance over Maori land, says the Maori Party.
On Tuesday, Waiariki MP Te Ururoa Flavell told Parliament that while it was important to meet Kyoto obligations and to protect the climate from excessive carbon emissions, the scheme must be fair and equitable for forest owners – many of whom are Maori.
