Turning Otago-Southland's lignite coal reserves into transport fuel might not be the pipe-dream that many people think - despite the Government playing down the prospect.
The chief executive of Solid Energy, Don Elder, was last week reported as saying that New Zealanders could have diesel priced at as little as one dollar a litre within a five-year timeframe if the Government supported the company’s efforts to capture the southern lignite coal resources.
