We need to solve the dry-year problem, says Carr

By GAVIN EVANS | Electrification of more of the economy to reduce the country’s greenhouse gas emissions will require a resolution to the risk posed by dry years to the hydro-electricity system, says Climate Change Commission chair Dr Rod Carr.
Noting the commission has not formed a view on a $4 billion pumped-hydro scheme promoted by the Government earlier this year, Carr observed that the studies being proposed would also test alternatives to the Lake Onslow proposal in Central Otago, he told an INFINZ conference yesterday.
