WAIKATO farmers could be replacing dairy cows with buffalo if the region goes ahead with a plan to drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The Waikato Regional Council is looking to unconventional carbon sinks like mangrove forests and “wet” agriculture on peatlands in a bid to get its greenhouse gas emissions under control.
