THE OWNERS of forests already in the Emissions Trading Scheme should be able to choose whether to switch to a new form of carbon accounting, MPs have heard.
Under proposed changes to the scheme, the carbon stored in new forests will be calculated using an averaging system, in which they will get credits for the first few years of growth during a forest’s first rotation and no more after that.
