New ultra-thin material seen as breakthrough

A NEW ultra-thin film that absorbs solar energy could revolutionise the harvesting of solar thermal energy.
The 90 nanometre material is 1000 times finer than a human hair and is able to rapidly heat up to 160deg under natural sunlight in an open environment, and could also be used in thermophotovoltaics, solar water-desalination, as an infrared light source and heater, in optical components and in photodetectors, and for mounting “colourful displays”.
