FLY FEAR: Fruit pest will enjoy warming climate

THE RISK of Queensland fruit flies establishing in New Zealand is expecting to increase as the climate warms, threatening the country’s horticultural industry.
Three of the flies have been found in Auckland’s North Shore over the past two weeks, leading to a ban on the movement of fruit and vegetables out of some suburbs and an intensive hunt for more of the insects.
