Bitumen industry hits back at claims by cement companies

Road contractors are responding to the cement-for-roads campaign with some research of their own and that will demonstrate a minimised through-life carbon footprint for bitumen paving compared to that of cement.
Stung by allegations from cement interests that the flexibility of the bitumen pavement means that vehicles are permanently powering themselves out of a dip in the settling road, and that this also leads to high maintenance and still more tar, the bitumen contractors appear to be rallying around the high processing costs of cement roads.
