NGAI TAHU: We're giving away our forest benefits

NGAI TAHU wants existing native forests included in the Emissions Trading Scheme, saying Maori are being forced to donate to the country the climate benefits of their forests.

In a submission on the current review of the Emissions Trading Scheme, Te Rûnanga o Ngâi – which has substantial forest, farm, tourism and housing holdings – says that native forests should be recognised as a viable source of carbon sequestration.
