Engineers build tower to power-up phones

Engineers from WelTec’s School of Engineering and the School of Creative Industries have designed and built a solar-powered cell-phone charging tower.

The 3.5-metre tower has a solar panel on top, and allows up to eight users at one time to use five volts of energy (the typical amount used to charge a cellphone for half an hour) to charge their cellphones.
