Rio Tinto's Bluff smelter ... disadvantaged?
New Zealand operations powered by renewable energy - like the Rio Tinto aluminium smelter at Bluff - could be disadvantaged by plans to calculate average emissions levels with Australia under a new intensity-based scheme.
Climate Change Issues Minister Nick Smith told journalists in Wellington today that industry averaging data for the intensity-based calculation of emissions and units would be shared with Australia, which is taking a similar approach.
