Describing the 11 billion tonnes of known lignite reserves as “a very significant national resource,” Palmer  told Carbon News that tapping into it is not only “a question of being environmentally sensible and sustainable, but also of having an energy policy that allows us to have a 21^st century economy and not a 19^th century one.”
