No timeframe on exploiting southern lignite fields

Solid Energy (SE) is going to use its huge Otago-Southland lignite coal resource eventually – it’s just not sure when, according to the state-owned collier’s chairman, John Palmer.
Describing the 11 billion tonnes of known lignite reserves as “a very significant national resource,” Palmer told Carbon News that tapping into it is not only “a question of being environmentally sensible and sustainable, but also of having an energy policy that allows us to have a 21st century economy and not a 19th century one.”
