We're still talking electric locos, says minister

KIWIRAIL says the new government hasn’t told it to reverse plans to replace electric locomotives on the Main Trunk Line with diesel engines – a move expected to increase greenhouse gas emissions by 12,000 tonnes a year.
In August, the Labour Party put the State-owned railway on notice that if elected, it would “issue a clear letter of expectation to cease work on de-electrification”.
