THE NEXT three years are more than an electoral cycle; they make up the period that could determine – quite literally – what sort of world we live in. And that’s what should be on the minds of politicians jockeying to form the next government.
In June, former United Nations climate head Christiana Figueres and Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research director Joachim Schellnhuber, among others, warned that avoiding dangerous levels of climate change requires unprecedented effort and co-ordination from governments, businesses, citizens and scientists over the next three years.
