Fishing group fears impact on Maori rights

New Zealand’s largest Mâori-owned fishing group says it’s worried that recreational fishing parks and marine reserves will affect Maori fishing rights.

Aotearoa Fisheries chief executive Carl Carrington says that while the company supports the concept of sustainable fishing, the Government’s proposal to exclude all commercial and non-commercial customary fishing from parks, reserves and sanctuaries is making iwi anxious.
