Minister defends Denniston decisions

Conservation Minister Nick Smith says he deliberately approved Bathurst Resources’ mining application for the Denniston Plateau just one day before the new Crown Minerals Act came into effect.
The company has been given permission to develop an open-cast coal mine on West Coast conservation land without the public consultation that would have been required under the new law.
