Airlines use ETS costs to pocket millions

Airlines profited up to 1.36 billion euros last year by passing “imaginary” costs from the European Union Emissions Trading System on to consumers, says a new study.
EU airlines stood to gain the most from the carbon trading scheme - some 758 million euros or almost twice their estimated returns of 400 million euros in 2011 - says the study by Dutch environmental consultancy CE Delft.
