Banning industrial gas units the way to go

Proposals to ban some industrial gas CERs from the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme are no surprise, having been foreshadowed in the ETS review released last month, Westpac says.
Westpac would support any measures which seek to bring the NZETS in line with the EUETS, avoiding all the potentially negative market, legal and financial implications of moving ahead of other carbon markets, and would securing the environmental integrity of the New Zealand scheme by avoiding the short- term stock piling of industrial gas CERs into the New Zealand emission unit registry.
