Energy’s emissions nearly match agriculture’s

The energy sector is threatening to overtake agriculture as the biggest source of New Zealand’s carbon emissions, the latest edition of the Greenhouse Gas Inventory shows.
While agriculture at 48%, or 37.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (mtc-e), still dominates the country’s emissions profile, energy at 44%, or 34.1mtc-e, is closing fast.
