Ambitious plans to harness Indonesia’s millions of hectares of forest to offset carbon emissions could give rise to a new strain of corruption and financial fraud unless managed properly, experts warn.
The projects, which fall under the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) programme, are being viewed as a golden opportunity to cash in on the nascent carbon trade, the Jakarta Globe says.
