Big firms can now ask for free carbon allocations

Applications for free carbon credits for trade-exposed heavy emitters are open at last – for some industries, at least.
Companies that qualify have until October 8 to claim their share of free credits from the Government under a provision in the Emissions Trading Scheme designed to protect heavy-emitting industries from competition from countries that have not yet imposed a price on carbon.
