The main question as we near the July 1 start of emissions obligations is whether emitters default to the carbon tax at $25 or step into the market and buy cheaper carbon credits currently on offer at around NZ$20 per tonne, says OMFinancial.
Initial demand might be greater than supply as it appears there is only about 3 million tonnes issued at present, of which about 1 million tonnes has already traded.
