Cabinet buys a piece of string on cost of new ETS subsidies

A cabinet paper released today confirms no work has been done to budget for the cost of extending subsidies to large emitters after 2012.
On September 21 this year, Cabinet formally noted “that the costs of the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme post-2012 have yet to be budgeted for, so the additional fiscal costs post-2012 currently do not count against the budget allowance”.
