Airlines plan to halve emissions by 2050

The world’s airlines have unveiled plans to halve emissions by 2050, to fend off calls for new taxes on flying and criticism that they are failing to act quickly enough in the fight against climate change.
Willie Walsh, chief executive of British Airways, announced the plans, including a proposal to raise fuel efficiency standards by 1.5 per cent a year over the next decade, at a meeting of world leaders at the UN in New York this week.
