New Zealand could face a shortfall of locally generated carbon credits when the emissions trading scheme becomes fully operational.
OMFinancial trader Nigel Brunel, who brokered the only sale of NZUs to date, says New Zealand emitters might find they need to look offshore for credits to surrender.
