Japan under fire for 8% emissions cut target

Japan has said it plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of 8 per cent from 1990 levels by the end of the next decade, a goal attacked as too little by environmentalists.
Prime Minister Taro Aso announced Japan's mid-term target ahead of a December meeting in Copenhagen set to hammer out a new climate treaty that will replace the Kyoto Protocol when it expires in 2012.
