Australia is clearing native vegetation at a rate that amounts to a $2.4 billion annual loss of stored carbon, a Senate climate change inquiry has heard.
''We are still logging native vegetation at a rate of something like 60 million tonnes of carbon a year,'' CSIRO climate scientist Michael Raupach told the inquiry.
