Part of the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle will be counting the cost and a long hard rethink about aspects of energy and environment policy.
Electricity infrastructure, mainly in the form of transmission and distribution networks, had little chance to survive the worst impacts of the storm. But there will be testing questions about whether more should have been done and whether more has to be done in the future.
