Whales could be a valuable carbon sink: scientists

Whales influence the amount of carbon in our air and oceans, and may help reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere, according to new research by US and New Zealand scientists.
Like all living things, whales' bodies are composed mainly of carbon, making them the largest living carbon pool in the open ocean - part of the marine system that's responsible for storing 22% of Earth’s carbon.
