The protests erupting across China deserve international solidarity. The future of the planet could be determined by their success - or failure.
What is happening in China now is not a revolution. There have been hundreds of meetings and protest. Almost all of them have been small. But for the first time since 1989 and Tiananmen Square, the protests have been nationwide, and focused around the same demands. It matters too that almost all of the protests feature speakers and chants calling for democracy and for the president to step down. Calling for democracy in China is revolutionary.
