A climate diplomacy historian is disappointed with Aotearoa New Zealand’s lack of ambition for COP27, which started in Egypt yesterday, and says the country risks losing its standing in the Pacific.
Marco de Jong, who is a Global and Imperial History Rhodes Scholar with a focus on climate change diplomacy at the University of Oxford, says the national delegation is letting down Pacific nations where it should be taking the lead.
