Environment groups slam EU deal on climate, economy

European leaders have papered over deep divisions on solving the interlocking crises of recession and climate change and are hailing breakthrough agreements on both fronts.
But barely was the ink dry on deals sealed at a summit in Brussels at the weekend when environmental groups condemned the pledges as a "dark day for European climate policy," warning the continent is ceding leadership to protect its coal-fired economies.
