To decarbonise Europe’s car fleet, internal combustion engines (ICEs) running on synthetic fuels are not a viable alternative to electric cars.
The story is that “e-fuels” are a viable alternative to direct electrification in cars. Yet these will require five times more renewable energy than battery electric vehicles and would be unaffordable to all but some drivers (those driving a Porsche might be the notable exception).
