Global drought saps hydropower, complicating clean-energy push

Dry conditions in the U.S, Europe and China have raised questions about how hydropower fits into changing energy mix.
Record drought across the globe this year dried up rivers and reservoirs and sapped the world’s largest source of renewable electricity: hydropower. Less water means less electricity generated from hydropower technology, and in some locations factories and smelters have had to shut down for weeks on end.
