Inside the ‘energy villages’ powering Germany’s green transition

NEIGHBOURS in the Black Forest region of Germany have come together to create a community power plant, in a quest to achieve energy sovereignty.
The Virtual Citizen Power Plant provides energy to a group of about twenty five neighbours who all contribute renewable energy through solar panels or thermal power stations. Households can also access data on how much energy they are producing and using. Founder, Walter Falger calls the model a 'revolution of energy sharing'.
