Never mind that the participation of agriculture and forestry in the Australian emissions trading scheme (ETS) looks like being left to the respective industries to decide, land transport may be allowed off the hook too.
Australian Assistant Treasurer Chris Bowen suggested as much on Nine Network’s Sunday programme, just as the new Labor government of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was taking flak for a sharp rise in petrol prices over the Easter holiday long weekend.
