Carbon records slight fall

Carbon was subdued on Friday, prices fell slightly and trading was thin as Germany had a public holiday and there were no electricity prices to drive the market, OMFinancial reports.
Coal prices fell and gas prices rose. This can have a bullish effect on carbon as power generators look to switch from (cleaner) gas to (dirtier) coal and thereby increase demand for carbon credits. Coal produces about twice as much carbon as gas.
