By ADELIA HALLETT | Carbon tariffs at the border are on the Government's agenda this term to protect the country’s steel, aluminium and cement industries as they decarbonise.
Environment Minister David Parker floated the idea before the election, saying in a debate on environmental issues that it was time for New Zealand to consider border adjustments on imported steel and aluminium from “countries that undercut our local production by leveraging high-carbon industries in their own countries”.
