Govt opposed ClimCom in cash-or-credits case

The Government went against the advice of its own Climate Change Commission in allowing companies to continue to pay money instead of surrendering carbon credits to atone for their greenhouse gas emissions.
It was announced yesterday that the Emissions Trading Scheme’s fixed-price option would be available to cover emissions this calendar year, although the price would rise from $25 a tonne to $35 a tonne.
