Tough new water laws put heat on farmers

DAIRY FARMERS will have to disclose how much synthetic nitrogen fertiliser they are putting on their land under new rules expected to clean up waterways and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
But the setting of bottom lines for the amount of artificial nitrogen and phosphorus that can be in waterways has been delayed because of the economic impacts of the covid-19 pandemic.
