WILDFIRES RAGING in Australia this summer show why New Zealand must include emissions from natural disasters in its climate reporting, says an expert on environmental accounting.
The fires are estimated to have released 400 million tonnes of greenhouse gases – five times New Zealand’s total annual emissions and equivalent to the total annual emissions of 100 countries.
