Fertiliser firm wants balance in carbon credits

A COMPANY given millions of dollars’ worth of free carbon credits says the system giving it the units should not be stopped until at least 70 per cent of its competitors also face a carbon price.
Kapuni urea plant owner Ballance Agri-Nutrients received more than 1.3 million free NZUs between 2010 and 2017, worth more than $32 million at today’s spot NZU price of $25.20. Figures for last year’s allocation are not yet available.
